Pray for Bolivia.jpg

Dear prayer partners (From InContext Ministries)

On Sunday 17 November, the United Nations urged Bolivia’s interim president Jeanine Anez and supporters of the former president Mr Evo Morales to begin talks on resolving a crisis that has already claimed 23 lives and is causing food and fuel shortages throughout the country. The peace talks would involve legislators from Morales’ party, various mobilised groups and representatives of interim leader Jeanine Anez. The proposed talks would be mediated by the UN and the Roman Catholic Church.

Mr Morales resigned on 10 November and later fled to Mexico after facing claims of electoral fraud. Mr Morales said he had decided to resign in order to prevent fellow socialist leaders from being "harassed, persecuted and threatened". Bolivia remains unsettled as protestors have taken to the streets in many parts of the country. Legislators are currently considering possible dates for new elections.

Bolivia is home to about twelve million people, with 92.4% professing to be Christian. Evangelical believers account for an estimated 19.34% and a very small percent of people follow traditional ethnic beliefs.
